glo Hilo is the current glo platform and takes VIRTO and RIVO sticks, not the Hyper-era NEO, VEO or Kent ranges. It heats the stick in a chamber, reaches temperature faster than Hyper and runs a shorter, more concentrated session.
Hilo Plus uses the same heating platform, heat-up, session and sticks as Hilo. Its actual upgrade is a larger battery. That is the decision in plain terms: choose Hilo for the lower device price, or Hilo Plus if having more sessions between charges matters enough to justify EUR 35 more.

What is glo Hilo?
glo Hilo is the current glo platform. It heats the stick in a chamber rather than using the induction system found in IQOS ILUMA. The Hilo platform reaches temperature faster than Hyper and runs a shorter, more concentrated session.
The chamber design also explains why glo sticks are not interchangeable with sticks for other devices. glo chambers are wider and shorter than ILUMA’s, so the stick shapes differ. An IQOS stick does not fit a glo device, and a glo stick does not fit IQOS, Ploom or lil.
The standard glo Hilo costs EUR 80. The available finishes are Amber, Amethyst, Coral, Emerald, Onyx, Ruby and Sapphire. The finish is the colour choice; the verified product information does not identify a different heating profile between those versions.
There is no need to treat Hilo as a continuation of every older glo product. The platform changed, and the consumables changed with it. Check the stick name before ordering rather than relying on the word glo alone.
Which sticks fit glo Hilo?
glo Hilo takes VIRTO and RIVO sticks. It does not take NEO, VEO or Kent sticks, which belong to the glo HYPER platform. This is the compatibility point most likely to cause an incorrect order when moving from an older glo device.
| Stick line | Works with | Tobacco content | Capsule | Carton price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VIRTO | glo Hilo only | Real tobacco | No | EUR 76 |
| RIVO | glo Hilo only | Tobacco-free | Most carry a “Twist” capsule | EUR 76 |
| NEO | glo HYPER platform | Real tobacco | Some | EUR 68 |
| VEO | glo HYPER platform only | Tobacco-free | Capsule in every stick | EUR 68 |
| Kent | glo HYPER platform | Real tobacco | No capsule | EUR 68 |
For a closer look at the Hilo-compatible tobacco-free range, see the RIVO Sticks Guide: Tobacco-Free Range for glo Hilo. The VEO and VIRTO: glo Sticks Compared guide is useful when the choice is between the older Hyper-compatible VEO line and Hilo-compatible VIRTO.
What changed from glo Hyper?
The main platform changes are the heating behaviour, the device shape and the stick format. Hilo reaches temperature faster than Hyper, uses a slimmer body and runs a shorter, more concentrated session. Its chamber is also designed for a different stick shape.
That last point is why older stock cannot simply be carried across. NEO, VEO and Kent are Hyper-platform sticks. VIRTO and RIVO are Hilo sticks. The price difference does not make the ranges interchangeable: the EUR 68 Hyper-era carton price for NEO, VEO and Kent does not turn those sticks into Hilo consumables.
glo Hyper Pro is discontinued and is no longer sold. It should be treated as product history, not as a current purchase option. The live glo device categories are Hilo and Hilo Plus.
If you still have a Hyper device, use the Hyper-compatible range rather than buying a Hilo carton for it. The NEO and Kent Sticks for glo Hyper: Range Guide covers those older-platform options. If you are buying a new device, start with the device name and then select its matching stick line.

What does Hilo Plus actually add?
Hilo Plus adds a larger battery. It costs EUR 115, compared with EUR 80 for standard Hilo, so the difference is EUR 35.
The larger battery means more sessions per charge. It does not change the heating platform, heat-up, session or compatible sticks. Both devices use VIRTO and RIVO. Both are part of the current glo Hilo platform.
This makes the choice relatively straightforward. Hilo Plus is the practical option for someone who values longer use between charges. Standard Hilo is the better fit when the lower upfront cost matters more or charging between periods of use is acceptable.
Do not buy Plus expecting a different stick result. The verified distinction is battery capacity, not a different consumable system or a different heating profile. The finishes across the Plus range are Amber, Amethyst, Coral, Emerald, Onyx, Ruby and Sapphire.
The glo Hilo Plus category lists the EUR 115 device. The standard Hilo category lists the EUR 80 version. Comparing those two prices is more useful than comparing colour names, because the finish does not establish a different hardware or heating profile in the supplied product information.
Which Hilo should you buy?
Choose standard Hilo if you want the current platform at the lower price and do not need the larger battery. It is the simpler value decision at EUR 80.
Choose Hilo Plus if you want more sessions between charges and accept the EUR 35 premium. It uses the same VIRTO and RIVO sticks and the same heating platform, so the reason to pay more is battery capacity alone.
| Device | Price | Heating platform | Battery difference | Compatible sticks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| glo Hilo | EUR 80 | glo Hilo | Standard battery | VIRTO and RIVO |
| glo Hilo Plus | EUR 115 | Same glo Hilo platform | Larger battery | VIRTO and RIVO |
This is not a choice between different performance levels. It is a choice between a lower price and more battery capacity. If you usually have access to charging and do not care about extra sessions between charges, Hilo Plus is probably not worth the additional EUR 35 for you.
VIRTO or RIVO?
VIRTO is a real-tobacco line for glo Hilo. It has no capsule and costs EUR 76 per carton.
RIVO is tobacco-free and also works with glo Hilo. Most RIVO sticks carry a “Twist” capsule, and the carton price is EUR 76. The presence of a capsule is therefore a range characteristic, not a feature of the Hilo device itself.
Tobacco-free does not mean nicotine-free. RIVO contains nicotine. Any reader choosing RIVO should treat the tobacco-free description as a statement about tobacco content, not as a statement that the product contains no nicotine.
These are separate consumable lines with the same listed Hilo compatibility and the same carton price. The deciding distinction in the brief is their tobacco content and capsule setup. There is no need to buy a different Hilo device for one or the other.
For products containing nicotine, the required warning is: “This product is not risk free and contains nicotine, which is addictive.” These products are for adults aged 18 and over only.
Using and maintaining the device
Hilo heats the stick in a chamber. That is different from IQOS ILUMA, which uses induction with a metal susceptor inside the stick, and different from blade-based IQOS 3 DUO and older IQOS devices. A Hilo stick should be matched to a Hilo device rather than adapted to another platform.
The basic ownership question is compatibility first, then charging. Select VIRTO or RIVO for Hilo. Select Hilo Plus only when its larger battery meets a real need. Do not use the discontinued glo Hyper Pro as a current buying reference, and do not assume NEO, VEO or Kent will work because they are also glo-branded.
Care and troubleshooting are separate from the choice between Hilo and Plus. For cleaning and fault-finding information, use Cleaning and Fixing a Heated Tobacco Device. The supplied information does not support promising that either Hilo model is maintenance-free or that every issue has the same solution.

Frequently asked questions
Which sticks work with glo Hilo?
glo Hilo works with VIRTO and RIVO sticks. It does not work with NEO, VEO or Kent, which are for the glo HYPER platform. glo stick formats are not interchangeable between Hilo and Hyper, even though both devices carry the glo name.
Can I use NEO sticks in glo Hilo?
No. NEO sticks are for the glo HYPER platform, not glo Hilo. Hilo uses VIRTO and RIVO. The different chamber dimensions and stick formats mean NEO should not be treated as a compatible substitute for a Hilo stick.
Can I use VEO or Kent in glo Hilo?
No. VEO and Kent are glo HYPER-platform sticks, while glo Hilo takes VIRTO and RIVO. VEO, Kent and NEO are the Hyper-era ranges listed in the brief; they are not compatible with the current Hilo platform.
What is the difference between glo Hilo and Hilo Plus?
Hilo Plus has a larger battery and costs EUR 115, while standard Hilo costs EUR 80. The two devices use the same heating platform, heat-up, session and VIRTO and RIVO sticks. Plus is therefore a battery upgrade, not a different heating system.
Is glo Hyper Pro still sold?
No. glo Hyper Pro is discontinued and is no longer sold. The current glo device categories are Hilo and Hilo Plus. NEO, VEO and Kent remain associated with the glo HYPER platform, while VIRTO and RIVO are the Hilo-compatible lines.
Are RIVO sticks tobacco-free and nicotine-free?
RIVO sticks are tobacco-free but not nicotine-free; they contain nicotine. Tobacco-free describes the absence of tobacco, not the absence of nicotine. RIVO works with glo Hilo, and most RIVO sticks carry a “Twist” capsule.
Is glo Hilo safer than cigarettes?
The supplied facts do not support calling glo Hilo safe, healthy or harmless. It is a heated-tobacco device used with VIRTO or RIVO sticks, and RIVO contains nicotine. These products are for adults aged 18 and over only. The required warning is: “This product is not risk free and contains nicotine, which is addictive.”
